Members from the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to a Western Avenue apartment building shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday night, where there was a report of a stabbing incident, Yonkers Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said on Wednesday morning.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers met the victim, a 32-year-old Yonkers resident, who had two lacerations on his back as a result of the incident. Politopoulos said that the officers were able to provide medical aid at the scene before the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Politopoulos, the victim told officers that he was in the vicinity of 27 Lawrence Street when he was approached by a male known to him. The two men engaged in a dispute that escalated and turned physical, when the suspect attacked the victim with a cutting instrument, possibly a box cutter. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, and the victim retreated to Western Avenue where law enforcement was called.

The stabbing comes a day after a 24-year-old security guard was stabbed in the leg outside a Locust Hill Avenue apartment complex on Monday.

Politopoulos said that the preliminary investigation determined that this does not appear to be a random incident, and detectives are currently interviewing subjects, canvassing for witnesses and surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence. Investigators are actively investigating the incident and are “following up leads in an effort to apprehend the perpetrator.”
